I Call Blingo!

Web + log = "Blog "
Blog + lurkers = "Blurkers "

Quoth the Don Henley, "are you with me so far?"

So I was thinking last week that I will stumble upon a really good blog every so often. Maybe not always depthwise, but at least humorwise. If that particular blog can impress me with four really good bits or routines of humor or writing, I call "blingo!"

Blog + bingo = Blingo!

So I call blingo on
http://wildwoods.blog-city.com/

Not just because of the
http://www.warninglabelgenerator.com/ link which has so much promise for my household, but also because of the Vin Diesel piece that he linked from http://glamourarrives.blogspot.com/2005/11/vin-diesel.html and this http://wildwoods.blog-city.com/i_want_this_tee_shirt_so_bad.htm because Procrastinator Jr. made me teach him that song over and over again when he was about six. Nothing like dredging up good memories after a long work week.

Last but not least, the quote at the top of his page...

"Last night I was having dinner with Charles Manson, and in the middle of dinner he turned to me and said "Is it hot in here, or am I crazy?" -Gilbert Gottfried

Plus, I call blingo on http://melliferouspants.blogspot.com/ http://tequilashots.blogspot.com/ and http://juliegoestohollywood.blogspot.com/ because every other thing these ladies post is hilarious.

Blingo on http://thepopeye.blogspot.com/ and http://livingromcom.typepad.com/my_weblog/ 'cause they leave a big dumb grin on my face.

Unfortunately, I just Googled "blingo" and it's already owned. Not like I was going to do a Pat Riley and copyright it or anything. I'd just like to see something nice to offset "blurkers" which I have yet to actually hear someone use in conversation and I hope dies a quiet death back in the bowels of the reporter(s) that spawned it.

Paraphrasing Michael Stipe, "everybody lurks...sometimes." Nothing's wrong with lurking, not everybody wants or needs to contribute to every conversation.

My issue is the word itself. The sound it conjures in my mind makes me reflexively want to reach for an airsick bag.

"Thank you sir, I appreciate the Blingo!"

You're welcome.

"I just post what makes me laugh. Glad you passed along that the Batman song to the little writer. Gotta keep that thing going."

Absolutely, a good classic that won't get on a parent's nerves until the twentieth request to sing it again. That and the "On Top of Old Smokey" with the teacher and rubberband variations.

Hey sorry to be so belated in thanks for the blingo, but just for the record, "blurker" is brilliant.

Hey, you're welcome. Thank you very much for dropping by.

"but just for the record, "blurker" is brilliant."

Hey, you are Billy, but the word isn't.

You were a musician, you've been around them and groupies. You've been to publishing parties, so you of all people know what it's like to say goodbye to a pair of shoes because someone didn't remember that too much alcohol and just about everything else doesn't mix.

"Bh-bh-bh-lurk-er! Oh, jeez man, I'm sorry about...-bh-bh-bh-lurker!"

It's a great word in concept, lousy in onomatopoeia.
