First...

First, Ireland Baldwin? The chain ends with you, break the cycle of insensitive stupidity.

Second, overheard on the radio this morning and I'm coming in on the end of this, so it might be paraphrased...

G.W.N.I.D.K*: What was that anyway, "Glengarry, Glen Daycare?!" Put that snack down! Snack time is for closers!

There are plenty of kids I'd love to scream at. I think I've probably flipped out (PG-rated flip-outs) on my nieces a time or two, and I love them to death. Sometimes they like to test me though!

I don't know...it's hard to tell what goes on in that train wreck ex-relationship. If I couldn't see my kid, and then she kept blowing me off or her father kept screwing things up for me, I'd probably blow a gasket too.

I kind of felt for Alec here. I think he went over the top but when you only get to talk to your kid at specific times...well, that's gotta be tough.

Becka and Chelene,

I feel for Alec too. His marriage never stood a chance and his chances for a normal relationship with his daughter are next to nil. Yet:

A) He is trained in the theater. That means he has experience in improvisation and speech.

B) He is one of the number one voice-over artists in the world. The GE and Blockbuster ads off the top of my head. Though listen carefully during the next few commercial breaks and you'll hear him in about a dozen more ads.

C) Kim's been manipulating his ass for so long and somehow, he still can't see the trap coming.

I hate to see children used as weapons and both parents are doing their best to set their daughter against each other. Alec is not an idiot and granted that he was angry, he was smart enough and experienced enough to choose his words carefully.

Last but not least, as a parent I take exception to the statements, "you are a rude, thoughtless little pig" and "you don't have the brains or the decency as a human being."

Media and society give girls enough weight issues, the last person in the world that she needs to hear that from is her father. Plus, if he is to fault her decency and lack of humanity, what does that say about how he raised her?

When Procrastinator Junior has the occasionaly huge mental mistake (as do we all) that kids are prone to because they are kids, I explain to him that he is smarter than that and he knows better than that.

All adults lose their tempers and parents especially. The point is not to knock your kid down five pegs and instead, to explain to them that they can do better and that you expect that they will, because it is within their reach.

The world will give them enough hard knocks, don't cuff them in the head on top of everything.
